Bio
I'm Shelby, a former stray from Agadir. I'm sweet with people, all tail-wags and eager for attention.
Life out in the streets taught me to be smart and self-reliant. When it comes to other dogs I'm picky - I like choosing whom I befriend. This isn't practical in a the shelter environment, so the team had some difficulties finding a suitable dog group for me. During my first months at SARA I was in a very small enclosure with one or two other dogs I got along with. But I got frustrated with the lack of space while seeing other animals through the fence so I barked a lot. Now I'm more at ease, living in a larger enclosure with around 10 other dogs. I've become more sociable, although I still act dominant around food so I get fed at a distance from the others to avoid tensions.
I narrowly missed my chances at adoption, so I'm urgently looking for a real home. I miss having some freedom - as I used to when I was a stray, despite its perils. With more physical activity and slow, structured introductions to peers I'll adjust well to a human household, including in an urban setting. I'm very food motivated, which be useful for training me.
Background
Shelby befriended a couple on vacation in Agadir. They brought her to SARA to keep her safe during preparations for her rehoming to the UK (vaccinations, paperwork). Unfortunately they can no longer adopt Shelby and needs to find an alternative home.
